Welcome to Avilumen: a living encyclopedia of exotic birds is born

The Avilumen team · · 2 min read

Ten birds illustrated by Avilumen: macaw, toucan, grey parrot, cockatiel, budgie, lovebird, eclectus, canary, lorikeet and cockatoo

Today we officially open Avilumen, a place to really get to know exotic birds: what they look like, where they live, how long they live, what they need and how threatened they are. We built it for bird lovers, for anyone thinking about living with one, and for anyone who just wants to know which bird they just saw.

What Avilumen is

Avilumen is an illustrated encyclopedia. Every species has a profile with its common and scientific name, family, IUCN conservation status, the regions where it lives, and a gallery of original illustrations in six styles: watercolour, natural history, ink, oil, realistic and coloured pencil.

Everything is available in Spanish, English, French, German and Chinese, with the same quality in all five.

Ask Avilumen

The feature we are most excited about is the AI assistant. Type a question the way you would ask a friend who knows birds — "which parrot suits a small flat?", "how long does a cockatoo live?", "which blue bird lives in the Amazon?" — and it answers in seconds.

The assistant does not make up the catalogue: it first finds the species that match your question, then answers with links to their profiles and, when useful, to the care guide for that group.

A good question deserves an answer with a source, not a guess.

What you can do today

  • Explore all 1,497 species by order, family, region, colour or conservation status.
  • Read the care guides for macaws, cockatoos, lovebirds, lories, parrots, parakeets, finches and toucans.
  • Watch narrated videos of seven species, with their real calls, in all five languages.
  • Search by describing the bird in your own words: colour, size, habitat or what it is doing.
  • Ask the AI assistant anything you want to know about birds.

What comes next

This blog is where we will share every update: new videos, more guides, articles on conservation and curiosities from the bird world. We will publish carefully and with checked facts.

A clear commitment

Avilumen does not sell or broker live animals. If you are thinking about keeping a bird, check your country's law, insist on CITES paperwork and find an avian vet. Our job is to help you make that decision well informed.

Thank you for being here from day one. Welcome to Avilumen.
